When you received triple red shells, do not used them all at once by pressing the R button. Used them simultaneously by using one to hit another kart racer to slow them down and catch up, then used it again to hit another kart racer, and make sure the kart racer in front of you slows down, and used the third final red shell to hit the second, or third kart racer to slow them down, and take the lead.
